Abbey Cottage, Itchen Abbas
“… may I a small house and a large garden have” Abraham Cowley, 1647.

So far so good, but as Sir Francis Drake said, ‘it is not the beginning but the continuing of the same…’ What, then, is the prospect?

 I want to:
-       Enjoy observing and understanding the horticultural problems I encounter.
-       Accept that it may not always be best for the garden to be neat and tidy throughout.
-       Forget ‘quick fixes’ to horticultural problems.
-       Think ahead and take precautionary measures to prevent problems developing.
-       Remove all synthetic chemical substances from my garden.
-       Be an ambassador for organic gardening.
-       Perfect the techniques of compost making – both hot and cold methods.
-       Be prepared for the following problems: rose black spot; vine powdery mildew; aphids; bindweed;        -     Solomon’s Seal caterpillar; apple canker; bindweed; weeds in gravel paving and lawns ; juniper webber -       moth; and probably others.
